Remembering Swoose Alexander: Vintage Flintknapping

This page features a remberance article on John E. "Swoose" Alexander published in the Texas Cache Magazine Volume 29 #3 Summer 2026 issue, as well as a playlist of Swoose's instructional flintknapping videos.

Back in 1997, Texas Cache founder Bob McWilliams published a series of articles about his friend, John E. “Swoose” Alexander. Born in Brown County on September 6, 1919, Swoose lived in McCamey, Texas, until he passed away in 2008. A self-taught knapper, he spent decades learning how to recreate replicas of Paleoindian and Archaic projectile point types.

See the PDF below for the full article, followed by six of his videos. Texas Cache expresses deep gratitude to the Alexander family for permission to digitize six hours of Swoose's vintage VHS videos online for the world to enjoy.
